![]() ![]() Secondly, it sets up for Moff Gideon initially pretending to not want to fight Mando, as the intense fight scene beforehand makes it more far more believable that the following scene will not contain another battle.īut knowing the standard The Mandalorian has met thus far, it seems unfair to suggest any one reason is the sole explanation for why the scene occurs as it does. Firstly, it served to show just how much of a threat the Dark Troopers are - as a lone unit gets a solid few minutes of screen time solely dedicated to beating up Din, who has been shown as a proficient fighter even by Star Wars standards. There's also likely the chance that Mando's slow reaction served two purposes in terms of the construction of the episode. ![]() Of course, there is the practical side of things. ![]() Even a temporary moment of a flashback of fear would have opened him up for the beatdown he suffered at the hands of the one Dark Trooper he took on physically, because the droids are made to be ruthlessly efficient in combat. However, watching a huge swarm of droids that potentially far outclass him in power steadily approach - all the while aware a loved one is in danger not too far away - could have potentially brought back a lot of unpleasant memories for the beskar-clad warrior. Related: The Mandalorian: Moff Gideon’s Vader Armor & Dark Troopers Explainedīut in fact, the truth of the matter seems to be the very opposite, as it appears Mando may have been reluctant to take on the Dark Troopers as a result of the trauma brought about by seeing his family and settlement brutally murdered by droids. Obviously, this isn't to suggest that Din freezes up every time he fights a robot, or even a large number of robots, as the life of a Mandalorian means fighting machines is almost an inevitability. However, this is a man traumatized permanently by seeing his loved ones killed by Separatist battle droids, and so it seems strange to suggest he would consider the Dark Troopers as anything but an urgent threat to be dealt with immediately. There are a lot of factors that could potentially factor into this - his attempt to be sneaky slowing him, potential overconfidence, or just that the producers wanted the fight to take place. Din waits almost until the Troopers are at him to shut a door on them, and then reacts incredibly slowly to take down the unit that manages to get him. ![]()
